E3: Microsoft reveals Kinect Fun Labs, available today [video]

Microsoft revealed on Monday that it plans to make Kinect Fun Labs available immediately.

Kinect Fun Labs is a new permanent addition to the Kinect Hub. The new part of the hub allows Kinect owners to download gadgets to play around with Kinect. Microsoft is releasing the following free gadgets on Monday:

  • Build a buddy – scan in any object and play with it in any way
  • Googly eyes – scan in an object and then be that object
  • Kinect me – make an avatar that looks like you
  • Bobble head – create a bobble head from your avatar
  • Kinect sparklers – lets you use finger tracking to create photos with sparklers

Microsoft is expected to detail the gadgets and Kinect Fun Labs in full later today at its E3 press conference.

    That sounds quite good but not sure how long it will keep us all interested :-) Although the finger tracking element sounds interesting – will that be available for “proper” games too now?

      Scanning your self in and being an avatar is cool though.   And could point to the same tech being used in many MMOs or RPGs in the future.    These things are free, basically tech demos, that MS makes to show what you could do with the technology.

    That finger tracking demo is pretty slick…..   I wonder how Nintendo’s new Wii plans to compete against Kinect?

    I was going to watch the video but at this rate there won’t be anything to watch during the keynote. lol
    But seeing the headline and first few lines, I think this is a cool way to continue showing off the tech.  The more the merrier.

    Not liking Google’s +1, Duplicate, Displace, Dictate of Bing’s feature. I don’t use Bing (yauba.com) but I don’t think it adds value.

    I hope there is something of real substance from Microsoft at this E3. From what’s been leaked so far though I doubt there will be.

    officials.

    Played with all the apps last night. Apps is the correct term. They’re not games. They’re not deep. More like little tech demos. But they’re fun and free. You even get achievement points with them.
