ESPN on Xbox 360

Microsoft shipped its latest ESPN Xbox LIVE update on Thursday.

ESPN on Xbox LIVE allows users to access over 400 college football games, 31 bowl games and more than 75 exclusive games from ESPN3. ESPN is free for Xbox LIVE gold subscribers in the United States who connect via a participating data provider. The update includes the following features:

  • My Sports – ESPN on Xbox LIVE now allows you to choose your favorite sports and teams and designate these channels as “My Sports,” so you can jump directly into the games and content you care most about. ESPN on Xbox LIVE will automatically provide you with a personalized daily feed of news and highlights based on “My Sports,” catching you up on only the teams and sports you care most about.
  • Mini Guide – The Mini Guide gives you a preview and quick access to all the sports content you care about right at the bottom of the screen. Saturday is all about college football, and now the best fans don’t have to miss anything. Is another game tied up late in the fourth? Instantly switch to that game. Halftime? Play the earlier highlights.
  • Split Screen – Because true sports fans want to watch more than one game at a time, ESPN on Xbox LIVE is adding Split Screen, allowing you to watch two events at once. Watch live events on both screens or a live event on one while you catch up on news and highlights on the other. You can even control both screens independently, pausing and rewinding each separately so you never miss a second of the action.
  • Voice Control with Kinect – Focus on your team instead of looking for the remote. Navigate through the Content Guide, skip to the next highlight, or play, pause, and rewind that big play…all with the sound of your voice and the magic of Kinect .
  • Scoreboard – ESPN on Xbox LIVE is also adding a live college football scoreboard that you can jump to any time. You can even use Split Screen to watch the big game on one side of your screen while the live scoreboard occupies the other, keeping you up on all the action from around college football.
  • Reminders – Too many big games to keep track of in your head? Not to worry – ESPN on Xbox LIVE now lets you tag games and set reminders so you never miss a moment.Live Alerts – With new live alerts, ESPN on Xbox LIVE will keep you posted on score changes from around college football, even if you’re not keeping a close eye on the scoreboard.
  • ESPN BottomLine – The addition of the ESPN BottomLine to ESPN on Xbox LIVE keeps you in the know with breaking news and score updates from around the world of sports.

I was just getting ready to write the same thing!!!! F’ing Time Warner blows!!!! Absolutely no excuse why this isn’t up and running on their system yet.

did you ever stop to think that time warners internet pricing may be affordable because they’re not signing blanket agreements with ESPN?  Personally, i blame ESPN for not making this viable for anyone with high speed so they can buy it or access it on their own will and not be dependent on carriers / ISPs

What the f*ck makes you think Time Warner is so “affordable”? That might be the stupidest comment ever….

They have had them listed as, “An agreement will be signed soon. Check back soon” since Xbox released this over a year ago. They have no insentive to allow this on their network as it will slow down their network speeds and take away from their own programming and advertising sales.

as much as id like to be excited about this i cant because my ISP wont pay for ESPN3 and wont allow me to pay for it either, not that i want to. ms better step it up with thier new live tv features or they’re gonna have a tough time and go the way of apple tv and google tv. the truth is the cable companies hold too much control over content and the networks need to break free of thier hold but they wont because they love the high margins they receive. i hate corporate control.

Fun, fun, really fun for us in the Scandinavian countries. As usual MS forgets European countries. :-(

ESPN covers all of the sports, except the two I actually care about.  NFL and NHL.  Not saying it is their fault or anything.  The NFL are greedy bastards.  I’m just sad that I still need to go over to my friends house to watch the games (i refuse to waste money on cable TV just for football).

    • Morgan

NFL has an exclusive with DirecTV and their NFL ticket. This is why you cannot see every NFL game on anything but DTV.

They need to fix the ISP restrictions.  It doesn’t make any sense.  I can access it, but family members can’t from their houses, even though we have the same ISP.

Xbox needs an exception to this type of blocking.

How do we find out who the ‘participating data providers’ are?

    updating now  : )

They completely ruined the interface. Looks like it was designed for a PC with a mouse. You basically can’t use it with anything other than an Xbox 360 controller. The menus are microscopic and convoluted making navigation with a remote a chore. The content preview and titles are so small it is hard to see from far away.

They removed the Kinect controls entirely! All that’s left is voice control which is impossible to use because it has nested menus that go 3 or 4 layers deep. I really wish I could go back to the old interface. This sucks.

    • Adam Thomas

I totally agree.  The old interface worked beautifully.  This update renders the app useless.  The archived games are in random order when they should be chronological; what’s worse is that the screencaps aren’t even dated, so you need a TV Guide just to find the most recent games.  Horrible.  Whoever did this should lose their job.  Ruined.

Much more Sports buff-like now. I love it. The split screen action works great, and the new continuous play is also nice.

No Kinect interface with it yet that I could see anyway. Pretty cool. I wish the fast forward and reverse were much smoother, but overall can’t complain too much. The ICONS for commands are WAY too small. No reason for that really. Reminds me of some of the text on the phone. Whats with that?

Too cool! I downloaded it yesterday. You can’t see a NFL game but you can see college and CFL football games.
