Hands on: Windows 8 File History backup

By Tom Warren, on 13th Sep 11 4:25 pm with 14 Comments

Microsoft’s backup options are changing in Windows 8.

The developer preview of Windows 8 includes a File History feature that was previously known as “History Vault” during the early Milestone builds of Windows 8. File History will allow Windows 8 users to backup their library, desktop, contacts and favorites. The interface includes advanced settings and the ability to exclude folders from a backup. Windows 8 users will need a separate partition, HDD, external HDD or network drive to take advantage of the new backup.

windows 8 tablet > apple toys.

You forgot to include Android in that.  There will always be people who will buy iToys, but I can’t imagine anyone wanting a crappy Android tablet after seeing this.

      yeah alt+tab, win+tab aren’t better than Expose… /s

and well i dont have metro UI as my start menu… maybe you got a special windwos version?
anyway, if you didn’t know its not even in beta, so you cant expect any real change in the CLASSIC UI, because i really dont know what you mean by “radical change of the ui” if they are adding a new Metro ui. but i gues you mean classical UI so yeah… you cant expect anything like that, its not like they aren’t working on it, but its not important to show it.

and yeah windows its still windows, with alot of cool Videogames, my working tools 3dsmax, Revit, Sony Vegas, Moi3d, you know stuff that is windows only.

but i like how you “guess” base in a developer preview, not beta, not rc… no, a developer preview.

THey clearly stated that they are building from windows 7, which is not a bad thing since it is a great os. Why would they radically change the desktop os when it works so well and so many businesses are now comfortable with it.

What for? So more people become less efficient while working? There’s one major reason why enterprises will never use Mac: Idle cost.

The apps will do the things Expose would anyway. Windows will always be skinnable and it’s optional. That’s the beauty of it.

People are so caught with everything today they barely allot time to do stuff for the rainy days. And with rainy days, we meant data back-ups. What most people doesn’t realize is the fact everything’s done with a computer, and if the PC’s files aren’t backed-up, they will be gone forever.
