How to: force official Windows Phone 7.5 “Mango” update onto your device

By Tom Warren, on 27th Sep 11 7:24 pm with 311 Comments

Windows Phone Mango

Windows Phone 7.5 “Mango” started rolling out on Tuesday but not all devices will get the update notification straight away.

There’s a simple way to force the Mango update to your device as long as it’s currently in the delivering phase. WPCentral reports that the update will process in three stages. Microsoft updates handsets to 7392 then through to 7403 and finally 7720, the RTM build of Windows Phone 7.5. Thanks to WPCentral there’s some rather simple steps to follow to kick start this progress if you’re not seeing the update yet:

  1. Connect your Windows Phone to a PC and launch the Zune client
  2. Click on Phone/Settings/Update. Allow the software to tell you whether an update is available. If so, skip this guide. If not continue to the next step.
  3. Click the update button again, and this time immediately disconnect your computer from the internet (some people have better luck waiting 1-2 seconds). Do this by pulling the Ethernet cable, disabling Wi-Fi and ensuring there is no Internet connection.
  4. After around 30 seconds or so you should receive a notification that an update is available. This is 7392, a post-NoDo security update.
  5. Connect your machine back to the internet and continue with the update process through the Zune client
  6. After 7392 is fully installed, you may receive a notification that another update is available. If so, install Mango now. If not, proceed to the next step.
  7. If the second update isn’t popping up on its own, repeat steps 3-5, causing the 7403 update to appear.
  8. Install 7403
  9. After 7403 is installed, Zune should automatically start installing 7720, Mango. If it doesn’t happen automatically, force it using steps 3-5 once again
  10. Windows Phone 7.5 “Mango” installed :)
Let us know in the comments how you get on.

    Worked for me!

Can someone with the “proper” Mango update on Samsung Focus (v1.3) confirm the firmware versions?  My Focus with leaked RTM got the Samsung update today and shows:

      OS version: 7.10.7720.68
      FW revision: 2103.11.8.1
      HW revision: 3.1.0.7
      Radio SW: 2103.11.8.1
      Radio hw: 0.0.0.3
      Bootloader: 5.8.0.2
      Chip SOC: 0.36.2.0

    • MC

I got Mango on my Focus and I have the exact same firmware versions.  So you’re good. =)

      yupp… I have the same.

  • Anonymous

hmm…cant get it to work, must keep ripping cord out.

    • Anonymous

Try step 4.5, which is: clap your hands three times, jump up and down, and keep repeating the mantra “Gimme Mango, Gimme Mango, Gimme Mango!”

    • Guest

Don’t forget the need to have a black cat circle you three times while you throw salt over your shoulder from a solid silver, not plated, spoon ;-)

    • http://www.winrumors.com Tom W

Haha you guys are crazy :P

    • Lowpres

Try this… try to understant when Zune show you that you are up to date (4seconds, 7 seconds, etc…). The try to disable internet 1sec before it. If you receive a connection error your disabled too early.

works for me, im updating to 7720 while I type this, Im in BC on Rogers with a Samsung Focus 1.3, do you have the 1.4 or 1.3? to check enter diagnostics mode by keying in ##634# on the dialpad and then entering in *#2222# in the diagnosis app. v1.4 may take longer

    • itsmejoeyb

I believe if you have v1.4 this wont work for you at all. There is no update released yet for phones with the 1.4 hardware.

    • http://www.ardentra.com Ardentra

It finally worked for me… Just keep trying. I think the timing of disabling the internet connection is also important. I probably tried 50 times before it worked. I also had my zune player plugged in and turned that off to make sure that wasn’t interfering with anything.

  • Anonymous

Doesn’t work. Tried it 5 times, and no dice. So I’ll wait for it officially. Maybe I’ll have it in three months time.

  • http://www.facebook.com/bfink1 Brian Fink

Anybody know if this works starting off from 7712?

  • http://twitter.com/actionthomas Thomas VAILLIER

Worked for me to force 7392 on the Samsung Focus, but then doesn’t work again. I appear to be stuck at 7392. I assumed since I didn’t have 7392, I had the v1.3 Focus.

Does anyone know how to tell if you are on 1.3 or 1.4?

    • Anonymous

THERE we go. Took multiple attemps, but 7403 is underway.

    • MRLOCKE

remove battery look at sticker it will say rev1.3 or rev1.4

  • http://profiles.google.com/mr.tyguy Tyler Pease

so far its working for me… focus 1.3 on att. I click on the update and it doesn’t find anything, then I click on another item in the settings list and click update again and disable my network card. The update progress bar goes solid for about a minute and then displays the update. I’m doing the 2nd update right now, it didn’t find it for me automatically.

    installing mango right now.

  • Guest

I successfully update my Focus 1.3. Thank you!

I just disconnect my wifi when it checks the update. Then wait until it finish checking and update notice will appear.

  • http://twitter.com/levifreeman Levi Freeman

yea this is just like last time. but i got it to work after 3 goes. disabing wireless on the adapter settings isnt as fast as yanking out a ethernet cable. pressing disable early helps.

Don’t know if this will help out anyone but I had the best luck completely shutting Zune down before step 3 (check task manager…Zune likes to linger after the window is closed).  Once i did that I was able to get everything to work just fine.  Thanks for the tip!!

    • Jinge

After 50 tries it worked for me, same config! Update 7403 is in progress!!

    • Jinge

The thing is I have a “slow” connection, so I had to wait like 6 seconds… Just a bit less the software needs to know that no update is available.

can somebody please explain how to do it(the disconnecting part)

    • Morgan

As soon as you click “Update” Pull the ethernet cable and make sure your wifi is disabled too. If not your wifi will just pick up the connection. Once you receive the message that an update is available, then plug the ethernet cable back in and click update.

    • Xtremepharmacist

which wifi? on your phone or on your pc?

    • JRBobDobbs

BOTH.  I got hung up on this for freaking ever since no one mentioned it.  Just disable your phone’s wifi before you even start this procedure.

  • Michele Scandura

Nice. Thanks.  HTC Trophy.  Worked like a charm. 1st time.  Wierd thing was, I got the 7392 update a couple of hours ago normally, then…nothing.  Thanks again.

o2 UK HTC HD7, maybe 5-7 attempts to get 7403 – TIP! MAKE SURE TO SWITCH INTERNET BACK ON BEFORE PRESSING UPDATE BUTTON – I missed the first offer by not doing this! Another 4-5 tries, waiting 2 seconds before turning router off and i got another offer. Will see if Mango appears after

TMOBILE HD7, updating now. I couldn’t figure it out for a while, after I plugged in the laptop to the wall, I then clicked update for the second time and then IMMEDIATELY pulled the cord on the network. That did it. Long time coming on this shit man. I’m not here for Words with Friends, I’m here for the big picture.

Verizon htc 7 Trophy.  First update was already in zune, downloaded it and then had to unplug computer for the rest of the updates.  It is currenly downloading the 7720 mango update.  Looks like its going to work.  Thanks Jimmy.

  • fully67

    works for me.. orange UK

  • Morgan

This is working for me on Samsung Focus 1.3 with AT&T. What I don’t understand is why I had to do this to get 7392 which supposedly has been out for months. Im curious now that if I ad not taken these steps, would I have received Mango at all? I love the phone but I am not sold on this update process. Still seems clunky and needs polish. That said I am happy to have the new update!

  • HKR

The workaround worked on the third try – had to restart zune before trying the trick for the third time. – right now  it is downloading the update woo hoo

I have a samsung focus on att – not sure of the firmware version – it was bought within the first week of release probably a 1.3

My HTC HD7 just bricked on the update. I think it was just bad luck and not anything to do with the disconnect trick. It hung on step 7 of 9 of the install. When I finally gave up and restarted Zune it prompted me to restore from the backup. Regretfully I did not chose to do the restore at that
point (big mistake) because I thought the update may have actually finished so I tried popping my battery to see if it would restart–da I didn’t consider that if the update did not complete that my phone might be bricked and therefore Zune wouldn’t recognize it do the restore .

I just wrote HTC support so I hope they can tell me a way for me to get my phone restored.

Note to self: pop the fracken battery before doing any
updates in the future. Speaking of which–is there a way to reboot the phone without
popping the battery as it is a bit of pain when you have an Otterbox case.

    • Anonymous

If this happens to anyone try leaving your phone plugged and walk away. I just left my phone plugged in and came back about an hour later and there it was rebooted and with a message that my update was successful!

    • uk man

check out xda developers site .. you might well be able to reflash it without it need  to go back to be reflashed

    • Spartacus

go to this site to get the steps to reset : http://www.hard-reset.com/htc/ .. then select volume down. it will go back to nodo and you have to start over.  PS-i did exactly what you did, on the second attempt step 7 took about 40 minutes to complete before the phone reboot.

  • Baileystein

Tried it about 100 times with LG Quantum US AT&T, heres what happens:
    1. When I have all data disabled (Wi-fi, Ethernet, AT&T Data) it says it can’t connect (that’s like 0-60 seconds with Ethernet in.)
    2. When I have everything enabled (besides Ethernet after about 0-60 seconds) it says I’m up to date.
    3. When I have just Wi-Fi disabled and everything else enables (besides unplugging Ethernet) it still says I’m up to date.

    Thinking about giving up…

    • Anonymous

Same phone, same situation for me….

Will try some more tonight, but chances are I won’t be able to force Mango to install….

    • Peanuts

how about disabling all but ethernet.
then push the update button.. wait about a second and yank the ethernet cable out.. wait 4 sec’s more and push it back in.

basically what’s happening (at least I was told that’s happening) zune finds the update.. then checks if it should be blocked somewhere on the internet.. as it can’t find that it’s blocked it will allow it..

so you want internet connection for the first check but not for the second.

    • Baileystein

Thanks for your help, but I seem to get the same thing. Error 80072FA8. It appears to be that my phone is only using my phone’s data and wifi connection to get the update. Even if I have no internet connection between my computer and my router, it will say “Your phone is up to date.” So, am I suppose to try enabling airplane mode like 2 seconds later?

    • Jason Cook

Yea my LG Quantum won’t take to this either.  I must have tried 100 times yesterday too.

    • Irsan Ss

i use LG as well .. it went GOOODD!! :) . try again! .. and good luck ..

i am using wifi, and not ethernet for the step 3 .. since i think wifi is slower and easier to disable.

    • Anonymous

I had to go all to Ethernet and I had to let it “fail” once to get the timing of the “update” process down.  I ended up having to wait somewhere between 3 and 4 seconds to before yanking the Ethernet cable.  It was some odd timing but once you get it down it’s easy.  I’ve done this with 3 different phones on 3 different OS’s.

Wicked awesome on my HTC Trophy [Verizon] no issues, only took a total of 20 minutes to include missing the update due to not reconnecting my internet connection after it detected the update.  Quick download, quick install, and freaking crazy bad @$$ update!!!  Microsoft jumped the fence on this one!  Look out Android and iPhone!!!

  • Nabz

worked on first effort on the HTC HD7 on the Telstra NextG Network in Australia! Thanks Mate :)

  • Matt Harding

I had a hard time getting this to work with my focus 1.3 on a WiFi network. Try opening up a command promt “cmd”, then typing “ipconfig /release”, then hitting the update again. When it tells you there an update for your phone, in command prompt type “ipconfig /renew”.

    Thanks for the tip!

  • HKR

on Step 7 of 9 of the final update.

Had to do the force update – removing the internet connection during the update. Encountered a couple of problems

Error code 801812c1 – was resolved by the MS Knowledge base.. just the drivers. The next one was more interesting 801811c6 – no info in the MS Knowledge base, ATT punted the call to Samsung. – Samsung escalated it to tier 2 and the poor technician was clueless on the mango update. Internet peers to the rescue – bing had an answer – had to disable automatic “Windows Update” – windows update not the phone update and retry the whole process.

Now I am on Windows 7.5 – time to play around as I update my next phone..

Nice, it Worked. No longer waiting. Htc HD7 Tmous

  • SGA

Worked here in Canada.  Thanks for the info.

  • Moo

yep mine stalled on the first update step 6  (lg e900 optimus 7) .. after pulling the battery and reconnected got a phone driver error message in zune

went through the process again and it worked fine and rebooted and found 9 further updates :-)

apparently there are issues with the e900′s updating .. probably this issue …

to the people bitching about MS .. grow up ! … you forced the update, you take the risk .. thats why Ms is rolling out slowly to pick up errors !

i’m just hoping that now the real release is in the wild with firmware updates xda developers can crack on with getting us the drivers/changes needed for the tethering to work :-)

… thanks to winrumors for putting this “forcing method” out  .. on uk networks we’d be waiting for weeks if not months and be shafted on getting tethering at the end of it no doubt !

  • uk man

incidently … after the first big mango update i got 9 further titled “LG updates” so as this is an optimus 7 i presume these are firmware and/or device specific updates :-) hopefully without them being carrier specific .. ie i might by some fluke get tethering

  • Mmontrezjones

Sooo I had the update earlier and I accidently hit the restore to original state button instead of the update button, and now its gone. . . I have no Idea how to fix this. . .

  • Panitali

really good trick, I now have mango, its awesome

  • Arkistriph

Worked on my Focus now on to the wife’s LG thanks to you Tom.

    Tom,

Thank-you very much!  I don’t think I could have waited 1-4 more weeks.  Great simple process!

  • http://twitter.com/harsha_g11 Harsha Vardhan

    Worked!!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks a lot

  • rg

Yes! – Nice trick, who’d a thunk? 7392 just installed, and Mango is now installing.

  • Stefon369

It worked for me after trying 6 times for my Samsung Focus!

  • Anonymous

I am on Samsung Focus 1.3 with at&t … with the internet disconnection, I am able to trigger a 7392 update. Zune goes through the entire process, but after the last reboot, I get a 80180048 error. Seems like it is related to Walshed phones. I don’t recollect Walshing this phone I am trying to update.

Anyone else see this issue? Any solutions besides a hard reset?

    • http://twitter.com/TheTylerHarvey Sent from my toilet

Having the same error code 80180048…. No Walshed phone here either. Really pissing me off.

  • http://twitter.com/pierrerv Pierre Venescar

Tried it this morning it didn’t work. I’ll give it another tomorrow. If it doesnt work, then I’ll wait for the official one

  • jimmy2shoes

How do you get the custom ring tones going?

  • markiz

    mango installing right now!
Did not have 7 gb for a backup though. Hope it does not cost me :)

  • Hello

Pro tip – if clicking “disconnect” WiFi is not fast enough, open device manager and disable the device (click disable – left arrow – OK). I was able to time it perfectly with that since disconnect WiFi still hangs there for a bit so I wasn’t able to get it like that.
    Windows 7. Focus.

I have an HD7 on T-Mobile. This forced update works flawlessly for me. Mango is a go!!!

  • ratb3rt

had notice of 7392 overnight. Installed, then used this to force update. Works. Thanks guys!

  • LuvDaMango

OMG…The browser in Mango is just awesome. So fast and finally a real browser experience!!! My HD7 from T-Mobile is seriously rocking this update. One great thing I didn’t know about was supporting multiple calendars from my Live Email!!! Finally! Skydrive integration is totally insane. Threaded emails. The only thing I need to figure out is Visual Voicemail. It is activated on my cell phone account–but for some reason–it’s not working yet. The other thing is that I am getting that Facebook account error (0). I’m sure all these things will be worked out. :)

    • http://www.mainstreetchatham.com/ JimmyFal

did you figure out the Visual Voicemail yet? I called T-Mobile, they didn’t have an answer last night…

  • Lifeguardsam

lol DONT play EVE or any other kinds on online games while updating, it wil lag your pc and force a halt to the update. i was stuck on device restart (step 6) for 2 hours before trying it again.

    Samsung Focus (international provider)

  • Stephen

I have an HTD Mozart.  Doesn’t work for me.  I think it is because it is trying to do the update using my phone’s data connection.  If I turn of data connection on my mobile and try to look for updates via zune I get a 80072Fa8 error.  I can ONLY check for updates when data is turned on on my phone.

    Any ideas?

  • Stephen

I have an HTC Mozart.  If I turn of the data connection on the phone I recevie an 80072fa8 error.  It will check succesfully with data on, check boxes for checking for updates and use data on phone to look for updates both checked.  If I turn any of these off, zune returns the error listed.  With them on, no error, but no ability to update either.

    Any ideas?

  • Billo_meddu

Does anybody know how to force the update using WP7 connector on a mac ?

    pls.. can’t wait :)

  • Shawn Tan

Worked for me! Samsung Omnia 7, Singapore.

  • Stephen

I get an error 80072fa8 if I try to update with Zune and data on the phone turned off.  If data is turned on then it doesn’t use my computer to check and checks from the phone.

    Any ideas?

    • DM Pascual

Stephen, I turned on airplane mode with both the NoDo and Mango.  Not sure if that is the key, but its worked both times.  Give it a shot.

    • Stephen

Same problem when I turn Airplane Mode on.

    • Stephen

I also tried the use wifi and turn it off.  Also tried just turning off my ADSL router too.  Exactly the same problem.

    • Stephen

I did a full reset on the phone and I am able to update now.  I chose not to configure data.  I wonder if the problem was because I had an Exchange email configured?

Anyway – working now after hard reset.

    • Stephen

The one thing I was holding out for was tethering.  Don’t care how it happens but that was what I wanted.  Only, Microsoft in their wisdom have only added it as WiFi and so my HTC Mozart is not capable of it.

How STUPID can Microsoft be?  Cabled tethering would have been fine – but no, they don’t bother!

      Wish I bought and iPhone.

  • http://buffered.io/ OJ

Yup, worked like a charm here too. HTC Mozart on Telstra in Australia.

  • Guest

I cannot get this to work for my ATT Focus V1.3, 32GB

It appears that the check for updates does NOT use my computer connection, but my phone’s internet access.  If I turn off my wifi and data connection, It will not even complete the first connection.  If Wifi is off and data connection on, then it uses the data connection, otherwise it uses the phone’s wifi connection.  No matter what it does not care what the computer’s connection is.  I have tried rebooting, etc and no change.

Anyone else seeing this issue?  Any idea how to get this addressed?

  • Jason Fairchild

Done HTC 7 Mozart Telstra Australia.

Took 6 or 7 attempts, I did restart Zune a few times but in the end it looked like it worked without having to. Had to fiddle with the timing a bit, worked for me after a rather long 4-5 second delay before unplug.

Update is really long, particually the 7720 step 8 (installing update) I assume thats the phone reloading your data (music and so on) from the backup, it seemed to do nothing for ages, not even a progress bar but it came good (the backups are similarly long)

Also right at the end on reboot, it rebooted maybe 5 times without going past the HTC screen, a little unnerving, but nothing to worry about it seems.

  • Newklear

Works for me Samsung Focus 1.3 Rogers Canada. Thanks. Mango is awwwwesome :)

  • Christopher

    Worked for me!

    HTC HD7 – TmobileUS
    Dell Venue Pro – TmobileUS

    Thanks Tom.

  • Veigus

I force updated my HTC Trophy on verizon and the install proceeded smoothly but now I have no 3G.  I did soft and hard resets but that still didn’t help.  I’m going to try rolling it back to NoDo.  I just wanted to give people a heads up as I’m not the only person with this problem.

Ditto for my HD7 T-Mobile carrier phone.  I had to wait until I saw a progress bar searching for updates before pulling the network plug to my PC.  All updates have been installed including 7720.

I have waited 5 minutes to get the update with this method.

  • Jagiu

It worked on my Samsung Focus phone :)

  • Devin D

Just completed it for the HD7 (Tmobile usa) which was already updated last week to 7392 …its kinda tricky… you really have to time your internet disconnect correctly, for me it was turning my wi-fi off immediately after pressing the update tab, also I had to do it on the first time pressing the update tab or else I would have to restart Zune (had to do that quite a few times) but it does work!

  • tori

i got it with my samsung focus for ATT :) it should work for you, if this website doesnt explain well(which i think it does), google it.

Load of crap, people who were successful in upgrading belong to that 10%. Mine is a Samsung Focus 1.3, tried for 5 hrs without even getting up for a pee break. Doesn’t work, just wait until you get that message on your phone and don’t waste your time

  • Gael

Okay, so…. it worked. Dude not able to thank you with your name but it worked after trying your thing, which is….

Tip… click on Update (with cable connected) a few times and try to get how many seconds Zune tries to check servers. Then try to take off the cable just a few secs BEFORE the time.

  • Frank

Worked for me on my Verizon Trophy.  I tried it about 5 times before it worked.  The trick seemed to be waiting about 2 seconds to disconnect the ethernet cable, not removing it too quickly.

  • WaterBouy

Works, USA T-Mobile HD7.  Unbelievable.  Someone please tell me why this works?!

  • Guest

    Doesn’t work for me.  I’ve
tried multiple times over the last 3 days on multiple machines.  I either get “80072EE2 – Can’t check for

I got mango but it skipped 7403 I only got 7392 and 7720 should I go back and get this update? What does 7403 do exactly?

  • Treviathon

Here’s what worked for me after literally 100 failing tries:

    1. I turned on airplane mode on the PHONE itself.
    2. I disabled wi-fi on the phone – no idea if this helped or not
    3. When clicking on update, time how long it displays the progress bar screen before it tells you your phone is up to date.  You have to unplug the cable one second before all the writing comes up on the screen.  That means sitting through the loading bar, and pulling the cable RIGHT before the wording comes up.  IF the wording comes up saying your phone is up to date, you are waiting too long.  Mine was about 4.5 seconds before I had to pull the cable.  1-2 seconds wasn’t even close for me, I was pulling it out way too early on most previous attempts.

I do however think that turning on airplane mode makes it work a lot better.  The FIRST try after I turned on airplane mode it worked.

Hope this helps those that were pulling out their hair like me.

  • Jonathan Mills

Updating now on my Verizon Trophy :) it took about 50 tries – but I had it timed at about 3 seconds in - REMEMBER – as soon as it notifies you that an update is available, turn your internet connection back on and wait a few second for the connection to establish again before you continue with the update.

  • Webuser1

    Great! It works !

  • Dpatelia

its updated but I do not see new color (mango color) which i have seen in different site. my phone still looks same as old while in setting it shows 7.5. can anyone help me how to solve this?

  • Dsnetsupport

This took me over 4 hours to get right but it does work it is all about the timing, i had a stop watch out and everything and I now understand whats happening.

if the normal steps dont work try this as Ive put it down to the amount of time its take Zune to communicate with the update service and report back to you that yr phone was out up to date. Mine took 34 secs everytime so what i did was pull the canle on 30 seconds and Bam update is availbale for your phone soon appeared i thought i was seeing things… plug cable back in and wait for interent to come back and off you go…. GIVE IT A GO. Im here in the UK with HD7 on orange.. turned flight mode on and unchecked the 2 tick boxes on the phone in the update section.

  • Mike

Didn’t work for me.  The lost Internet connection brought up (predictably) a connection error in Zune.  Re-powering the router just brought everything back up as usual.  I have 7392 currently.

  • Rames P

    Works for me

    HTC HD7 India

  • Darren

Bell Mobility HTC HD7 worked for me the second try. Update took about 30 minutes. other then thinking it was froze at some point (and waiting longer) it all when good.
Already happy to see MSN Messenger support present, but annoyed with the move of the “Folders” button in Email which I used constently.

  • Laura

I did this and it said an update was found. When I connected back to the internet and pressed update a notification came up saying that I need to update my Zune software before I can update my phone. I did so and tried to get the update to show up again by clicking update and disconnecting from the internet but now it just tells me my phone is up to date every time. I think Windows found out about this trick and blocked it.

  • Dan

worked for me on my HTC mozart :)

  • Derick Gonzalez

Does not work tried for about 4 hours not 0 results. Tried with sim card in or not in nothing, tried with sim card in flight mode on nothing. No matter when I pull internet whether right away 2 seconds or right before it finishes nothing. I believe it is because it is not the computers internet that is checking for the update its your phones internet. While flight mode is on I get 80072EE7 error. The only time I do no get this error is when I have some sort of signal on my phone (whether its cellular or WiFi). I have quantum on ATT.

  • Jamie Neal49

its worked great that you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • bigpoppathepantydroppa

It finally worked bitches. LG Quantum 900 here in Illinois. Took me about 30 times. Follow the directions from the youtube video. Search for it under forced windows phone update. After i did that it only took me about 2 times. Good Luck.

  • Andrew Nightingale

Worked like a charm! Had to force both the first and second update, but then the third and final update started automatically.

  • Steve Sixtythree

I’ve also tried about 50 times. Different timing, pulling ethernet, pulling router power cord, different computer, reinstalling Zune, airplane mode off, on, off and on. I get several different error messages, all mentioned in former posts or a message that my phone is up to date. I have the LG Quantum as well.

  • liz

Thanks so much…worked just like you said it would! I had to force the first 2 updates, but the 3rd update popped up automatically following the installation of the 2nd update. Why on earth have they made it so hard to get an update though?  Seriously, having to force an update is ridiculous.
