Free Xbox avatar item for 10th birthday
Microsoft is celebrating 10 years of Xbox on Tuesday.
The software maker is giving away a free avatar item for Xbox LIVE users to mark the 10th anniversary of Xbox. The avatar item is an animated firework display that accompanies your avatar. Microsoft originally introduced its Xbox console on November 15, 2001. The Xbox became a hit gaming console with the introduction of the Xbox 360 console in 2005. Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE gaming service has helped propel the Xbox to the masses and cemented it as the number one selling console for the whole of 2011 in the United States.
Microsoft is now planning to upgrade the dashboard software of the Xbox in a major way. Microsoft started to push beta copies of the Xbox 360 fall dashboard update out to testers on Thursday. The November dashboard update will bring Microsoft’s Metro style interface to the Xbox. Microsoft is also preparing to include YouTube and Bing on the Xbox. Bing users will be able to use Kinect’s voice recognition feature to search for movies, music and other content on their consoles. The new dashboard will also enable Microsoft’s upcoming Windows Phone integration with Xbox, see a video demonstration here.
