Microsoft revealed on Thursday that Libyan authorities are currently holding one of their employees.
Khalid Elhasumi, Microsoft’s country manager, has been held since the evening of Saturday, March 19. Microsoft says it is currently working to secure the release of Elhasumi.
“Over the last two weeks Microsoft has been working with Khalid’s family and international organizations to help get Khalid released. We continue our efforts to ensure his safety and soonest possible release. We currently have no information about the reasons for his detention.”
Elhasumi joined Microsoft in 2010. He manages Microsoft’s operations in Libya which opened in 2006. “We are hopeful that the authorities will release Khalid soon”, says Ali Faramawy, Vice President Microsoft Middle East and Africa. “We are in close touch with his family and are actively working to provide support and ensure his safety.”
