Microsoft exec claims Google is ‘failing’ in the enterprise

Microsoft’s senior director of Online Services has spoken about the company’s move into Office web applications and its competition with Google.

In an interview with Computer World, Rizzo spoke candidly about Google and how the company doesn’t understand commercial business. “I would say that they’re failing, yes. I would say the results have not shown that they’re successful in the space. We’ve had customers who’ve gone to google and have come back to Microsoft,” he said.

The Microsoft executive also rubbished claims that Microsoft is trailing in the enterprise cloud space. “Let Google say we’re way behind as we continue gobbling up enterprise customers. Let Google underestimate us. They’ll be shocked when they see all the momentum we have inside this space.”

Rizzo also critiqued Google for it’s terms of services. “They say in their terms of use, the second you sign up, ‘We’re allowed to use your brand, your name and screenshots of your service in any way we want. We can use it on our Web site, in our marketing materials. We can use it to benefit Google.’ That’s not very customer-friendly.”

Rizzo also revealed that Microsoft has signed up over 2,000 organisations for its Office 365 beta. Microsoft has been conducting large deployments on-premises but the company is taking its time during development. Microsoft revealed its new cloud productivity software, Office 365, in late October. The service is a full browser-based solution that incorporates webmail, collaboration and document management. Office 365 will be generally available in 40 countries and regions next year.

I have been casually following #gonegoogle on Twitter and haven’t noticed any astonishing trends in this space. Every few years I try whatever the hottest Office alternative is. Shortly thereafter I go back to using Office. It’s almost always the Excel alternative that leaves a bad taste in my mouth for some reason or another.

They rather have a look at what they’re doing themselves. Stop making more failing consumer products like WP7 and focus on what you’re good at Microsoft!

At least Google is able to make a good mobile OS – and it works better than yours in the enterprise!

It’s just a matter of time until all your failed attempts at pleasing consumers will have a big impact in the enterprise.

      I’m not sure I’d call WP7 a failure.

Except for the fact that Google never “made” Android, all they have after that is Maps and Gmail. And they keep trying to shoehorn new stuff into Gmail and it goes nowhere quick. Case in point, Wave, dead, Buzz? No one cares. Google Gears died so fast it was almost funny actually.

The fact is nothing that they’ve made 100% on their own has gone anywhere and maps and webmail aren’t new ideas either. Android was around before but hey an infusion of Google cash sure does help, it’s like HP grabbing WebOS and then pushing it with everything they have, same thing.

Its hart to think of Google as something more than just a brilliant search engine… But if you look past that you discover that Google has created Android, contributed in Ubuntu, Has GMail and so much more, i can’t see them fail at enterprise

Google is failing, lots and lots of companies are leaving them because their service is so complicated – in some conditions needing 11 log ins to use the full service. Microsoft have nailed an all around enterprise package that just works, is up all the time and is tailored to my business. Google only offered me a ‘one size fit’s all’ package :( PS A friend of mine was first to get WP7 and I’m seriously thinking about giving up my HTC desire for it – really smooth and easy. Purely speaking my mind from experience – competition is good and it will be great if Google wise up and focus on the customer in enterprise!!
