Microsoft has issued a quick fix engineering (QFE) patch for Windows Live Essentials 2011 users.

The patch fixes a number of bugs found in the initial release of Windows Live Essentials 2011. The update, spotted by LiveSide, patches all core components of Windows Live Essentials from version 15.4.3502.0922 to 15.4.3508.1109. Both Windows Live Mesh and Family Safety are not updated by the update.

If you wish to apply the update then simply rerun the Windows Live Essentials install from explore.live.com and the patch will update all installed components. The patch fixes the following issues:

  • Windows Live Writer 2011: inability to use the “Alt Gr” key combination to perform some special characters in a French keyboard (like the characters # {~ etc.})
  • Windows Live Mail 2011: addition of the character # at the end of each sending of mails if Internet Explorer 9 is installed
  • Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 – Fixes for inaccurate GPS coordinates being inserted into EXIF of images. Fix for unwanted compression of files
