Microsoft reveals new Windows Phone logo ahead of 7.5 release

Microsoft has revealed its new Windows Phone logo for the Windows Phone 7.5 release.

The software giant is currently preparing worldwide launch events for multiple devices in September and October. Microsoft has officially changed the Windows Phone logo into a more square look, presumably to compliment the square tiles of the operating system. The company originally unveiled the new logo during a Windows Phone Mango VIP event earlier this year.

The new logo marks the official branding for the Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) release once it’s available during September. Microsoft employee Shinobu Takahashi revealed the new logos in a blog post earlier this week. Microsoft is expected to use the new square look across its marketing efforts for Windows Phone 7.5.

      I am pretty sure there is a NDA with regards to the rest of the features. Seeing as even Microsoft employees haven’t spoken about other features not yet announced or spoken about

      If Microsoft doesn’t announce more features within the next few weeks then I guess they are planning to reveal the full list at their BUILD event in September.

      Extra themes! Each new theme counts as a new feature! Custom theme color! Pick from a palette of 256 colors! That’s 256 new features! Extra ring tones! Each new ring tone counts too!

      You know, just like how every one of those real estate app was counted as part of the fast-growing number of apps for winphone 7.

      On a serious note though, I really REALLY hope Microsoft isn’t playing the numbers game here. As a software engineer, “500 new features!!!” rings alarm bells, and I too would like to know more about these “500 new features”

    Isn’t it actually 7.1 but marketed as 7.5? Like Windows 7 is actually 6.1?

      Windows 7 is Windows 7. If you’re referring to the NT Kernel version reporting as 6.1, it’s maintained as a 6.x number for compatibility reasons only. It”s not respective of how progressed Windows 7 is, or isn’t from Vista or other releases.

      Windows 2000 was NT 5.0 and Windows XP was NT 5.1 and that had a major difference. So numbers don’t matter

    I’m not sure if I really like it but that may be because I’m not used to it. I understand why they’ve gone for that design though.

      Well, personally I find it simple and clean, like the whole idea behind MS’ new designs generally and especially Windows 8.

      MS will set new minimalistic era, for once more. Already many popular sites adopting this idea. I don’t mean that everyone affected by Microsoft, but MS will standarize it.

    Love it. First, it endorses the metro design. Second, it’s way better than that ugly 3D circle containing the Windows flag.

    I love it.   Fits Windows Phone much better. than the current logo.   Now I only need to get a new battery backplate for my LG Quantum so that the logo matches =)

    It’s really bad. Totally hate it. Tiles are live and each does something different, while this repeats, no kidding, repeats “Windows Phone” 4 times, and the squares four times (which is fine) with the same windows logo in each (which is NOT fine!).

    Also, already bad enough they had to go typical Microsoft route for naming strategies (look how Bing has gone camped to “Windows Live Search da da da da…”). You think someone is going to say: “Just ‘Windows Live Search’ it? But they can ‘Bing’ it! So fine, name is already stuck, but now the logo has to repeat it FOUR times?  PS I like Windows Phone, am routing for it…

      I don’t know if you’re trolling but…It’s not repeating four times. They are different colors of the same logo and anyone can be used. It’s the same concept as the old circular Windows Phone 7 logo where there was a green, blue, I think red and a red and yellow for Mango.

    I think that these logos are too simplified. Although the mantra of Windows is to make life more simple, their impression shouldn’t be that unsophisticated.
