Microsoft said on Thursday that it plans to patch a security vulnerability in Office for Mac 2011, only two weeks after the software has been on sale.
Microsoft issued its advanced notification for the November ’10 security bulletin release today ahead of next week’s Patch Tuesday. The software giant plans to release three updates addressing 11 vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office and Unified Access Gateway (UAG). Only one bulletin carries a Critical severity rating, the other two are rated as important by the software giant. The Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 patch is rated as “important” by the software maker. The critical bulletin affects Office XP, Office 2003, Office 2007 and both 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Office 2010.
News of Microsoft’s next Patch Tuesday comes after Microsoft warned of a new un-patched flaw in all supported versions of Internet Explorer. The flaw affects Internet Explorer 6, 7 and 8 across Windows XP through to Windows 7. Microsoft’s latest browser, Internet Explorer 9, currently in beta testing, is not affected. Microsoft is currently working on a security update to address the flaw but confirmed the issue does not meet the criteria for an out-of-band release.
No further details about either of the office patches were made available but Microsoft plans to hold a public webcast on November 10 where it will detail the Patch Tuesday release and answer any customer questions live on air.
