Windows Phone VIP event

Microsoft is planning to preview the “next major release” of Windows Phone on May 24.

The software giant started sending media invites on Monday to alert press of a special VIP preview on May 24. Microsoft is holding an event in New York and London to “lift the curtain on the next major release of Windows Phone.” We expect Microsoft will officially name the next version of Windows Phone, codenamed “Mango”, as a 7.5 release. The company has been showing off some new features of Windows Phone 7.5 recently and will likely reveal its new Windows Live integration and other new features at the event.

WinRumors has received an invite and will be attending, stay tuned on May 24.

So they’ll be announcing the final feature list? I wonder what else they have that we don’t know about. Hardware mayhaps?

There better be some surprises. Tomorrow there’s Google IO, and I’m sure there’s some sort of ass whooping in store, even if just in form of announcements, in response to the (paid?) analysts predicting total success by 2015.

MS will preview what WP7 users can expect sometime next year, assuming the update is complete by September. Google will preview what’s available in June.

It would be available in June, but when will the update hit the phones? After a lot of time, maybe never

Maybe we’ll see Android 2.4 or 3.0 for smartphones.

Is this event talking about “Mango” being the next big update or the big update to follow afterwards? I would think it is about Mango, but I thought they already showed features for this at WMC and MIX. Just curious. Thanks

This will be Mango yes :)

notice the color of the invite… I believe that is mango.

Not all features were shown. At MIX conference they said, that it’s only features, that should care for devs, not end users, and they won’t announce these. So maybe this event will show all featuers

Seems like Mango is coming closer real quickly! Hope Microsoft learned something from the past: lacking behind is not a good thing ;-) Looks like their really speeding up the development for their mobile platform. Just can’t wait :D

anti-trust law suit is coming to a close….There could have been a non-compete clause there for situations like this….When the Anti-Trust comes to a close….It could/can be a very different story.

This is a welcome surprise. I know it doesn’t mean Mango is dropping anytime soon, but I’d been expecting this kind of announcement much further down the road. Now I’m seriously wondering whether to hold off on Verizon Trophy until after the 24th event. I’ve been waiting over a year, what’s a few more months? Any suggestions?

I would assume they are going to release a few Verizon phones due to the ‘trademark’ red tiles of the invite. Lets hope!

I’m expecting the release of the new dev tools, they did say May, so this might be when they’re done with them.

And are they going to say what NON AMERICANS are NOT going to get??????..
Most of us can’t use VOICE for anything.. let alone all the BING features you already get (Smart Addresses, Nearby Services and Much More) Nor does ZUNE work (No Artist Bio etc).. I love my Windows Phone but SO ANNOYED and FRUSTRATED that it is CRIPPLED compared to America’s (UK’s) version.

glad to see these changes, any idea if the turn-by-turn directions will activate the GPS compass on the phone? (hate having to turn my phone when I change directions to keep up)

With an event on the 24th, they should really be rolling out the update within 60 days. That’s how Apple does it, and it is why they seem so successful at updating. There is none of this “Hey, here are cool features!”, then 4 months later and still nothing that both Google and MS suffer from.
