Microsoft is working on a beta preview program for the new Xbox dashboard.
Xbox LIVE’s Major Nelson revealed the company’s plans in a blog post on Monday. The revelation comes less than a week after Microsoft confirmed it would start beta testing the new dashboard in October. “I’ve gotten a lot of questions asking me if there is going to be a Preview Program for the upcoming dashboard update,” said Larry Hryb (Major Nelson). “I am working with the teams here on a Preview Program for the new dashboard similar to the one we did last year,” he added.
The preview program is expected to launch before the end of the year but Hryb refused to confirm exact details. “I don’t have a time frame or any additional specifics to share right now, but as soon as I do you can be sure I’ll make a blog post,” he said. Microsoft has previously promised that the dashboard will be made available by the end of the year. Codenamed “Madrid”, the dashboard will bring Microsoft’s Metro style interface to the Xbox. Microsoft is also preparing to include YouTube and Bing on the Xbox 360. Bing users will be able to use Kinect’s voice recognition feature to search for movies, music, Xbox LIVE content and more. Microsoft is also planning to include some type of Marketplace with applications for Xbox 360.
