MySpace has dropped support for its Microsoft Outlook Social Connector, WinRumors has learned.
Microsoft is no longer promoting MySpace’s Outlook Social Connector and a company spokesperson confirmed to WinRumors that MySpace has killed it. “MySpace has stopped further development and support of the MySpace Outlook Social Connector provider,” said a Microsoft spokesperson. “Please contact MySpace for more information.” Microsoft has replaced MySpace with a French social networking provider, Viadeo, as an Outlook Social Connector partner.
Microsoft unveiled the social connector during the beta phase of Office 2010. The connector provides a stream of content from SharePoint, Windows Live and other social networking sites. At the bottom of Outlook emails users will be provided with contacts latest social networking posts. The social connector for Outlook will also link to Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn social networking accounts. The presence of social networking inside Office 2010 is part of a broad strategy that Microsoft is implementing across all its products.
WinRumors has reached out to MySpace for comment but at the time of writing has not yet received a response.
