
Nokia Windows Phone app
Nokia’s first Windows Phone 7 app is now available in the Marketplace.
Top Apps is a new Nokia application that curates local and worldwide Windows Phone apps. French site Mon Windows Phone spotted the application in the Windows Phone Marketplace over the weekend. Nokia describes the Top Apps Windows Phone app as a portal to find “the latest and hottest applications, view their ratings and descriptions and then get them straight to your phone.” Nokia will also supply local and global top apps alongside featured daily picks.
Nokia is expected to unveil its first Windows Phone 7.5 device at Nokia World 2011 next month. The handset manufacturer is holding Nokia World 2011 in London on October 26 and a number of Microsoft executives will be in town to discuss Windows Phone on different levels. Joe Belfiore, who oversees Windows Phone Program Management, and is responsible for the design and software product definition of forthcoming generations of Windows Phones will be speaking on the first day of Nokia World. Albert Shum, Director of Mobile Experience Design at Microsoft and Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s Bing and MSN chief will both also speak on October 26 in London.
Nokia CEO Stephen Elop will provide the opening keynote at 9AM on October 26 where he is expected to unveil the first Nokia Windows Phone device. Nokia’s first Windows Phone, codenamed “Sea Ray” was leaked to the internet recently after Elop demonstrated the device at a company meeting. The device is expected to be made available by Christmas. The design of the device appears to be identical to the recently announced Nokia N9. The device is “super confidential” at this stage and features gorilla glass, pillow shaped backing and a carl ziess 8MP camera. The secret nature of the device hasn’t stopped it leaking however. A new video emerged recently of ‘Sea Ray’ booting up into Windows Phone 7.5. The video demo provides a good hands on for the new device, expected to be named the Nokia 703.
