Reports suggest that Microsoft only sold 40,000 Windows Phone 7 devices on Monday.
The software giant launched their Windows Phone 7 operating system in the U.S. on Monday to queues of people in New York and huge interest. One market research analyst, who spoke anonymously to The Street, suggests that Microsoft only shifted 40,000 devices on launch day.
In an interview with Winrumors, Brandon Watson, Director of Windows Phone 7 was unable to confirm exact sales figures for Windows Phone 7. Watson, speaking with us at Tech-Ed, said there had been a large amount of devices sold and that interest was high. “It’s an exciting time” he added. Early unofficial estimates suggest that around 250,000 devices have been sold in Europe so far.
Microsoft officials declined to comment on The Street’s report however a T-Mobile spokesperson said that Windows Phone 7 was “already receiving strong interest from our customers right out of the gate.”
Microsoft confirmed on Monday that it now has 13,000 registered Windows Phone 7 developers. Windows Phone 7 users now have access to around 2,000 apps and games in the Marketplace and the software giant is approving new apps each day.
