A sharp spike in Windows Phone 7 Facebook application usage appears to indicate that Windows Phone is selling better this holiday season.
The number of monthly active users of Microsoft’s Windows Phone Facebook application has increased by 100,000 in two weeks. The statistics were discovered by the WMPU blog who note that there were 1,000,000 monthly active users on November 11 and this jumped to 1,100,000 by November 25. The statistics record the amount of users who are actively using the Facebook integration on Windows Phone. WMPU speculates that, based on previous calculations, this could reflect sales of over 500,000 new devices.
The jump is likely due to Microsoft’s huge promotion of Windows Phone this holiday season. The software giant has helped launch the Nokia Lumia 800, HTC TITAN and Radar and Samsung’s two new Windows Phone 7.5 devices. Nokia’s advertising in the UK has been massive. The company has taken over websites, newspapers and TV screens in a huge advertising campaign. Nokia appears to be spending Microsoft’s £20 million ($31 million) of funding wisely to promote their new Windows Phone 7.5 devices. Nokia also took over Heathrow airport earlier this month with six giant screens. Nokia is hosting a one-off event which will see deadmau5 perform in front of London’s Millbank Tower later on Monday. Nokia will project 4D images onto the tower and deadmau5 will run through a set of tunes on November 28. The gig will be free for all spectators and Londoners will be able to view the performance from the North and South sides of the River Thames.
