Still waiting on NoDo? Easy workaround enables quick delivery

Microsoft is pushing out its first major Windows Phone update to a number of carriers this week.

The software giant updated its Windows Phone update status page earlier this week to confirm that a large number of carriers are in the “delivering” phase. However, a number of people are still unable to access NoDo despite their carrier enabling the update. WPCentral has posted an easy and pain free to way to enable the NoDo update in Zune. It involves the following steps:

  1. Start Zune
  2. Turn off Data connection and Wifi on the Phone
  3. Connect the Phone with the PC (USB)
  4. Start the update search in Zune
  5. About 3 seconds later, disconnect your PC from the internet (Turn WLAN off).
  6. Zune finds NoDo-Update. Press OK.
  7. Connect to the internet again and install the update.

The workaround will only work for devices that are in the scheduling stage (see here or here). The method will not work for AT&T’s Samsung Focus device. Microsoft confirmed that AT&T is still testing the update and will sign-off in early April. If you’re interested in seeing how NoDo runs on the Samsung Focus then check out our video overview here.

    I finaly have NoDo :D !!

    Samsung Focus on AT&T here .. if you first debrand the phone you get the pre-Nodo update .. after that, this trick works and you get NoDo. The whole process was quick and smooth.

      As long as you have windows vista or windows 7 so you can dev.unlock the phone first… I dont have access to even one win 7 computer to play aroudn with this. By the time I figure out how to unlock my junk the actual update will be here haha..

    Importent trouble shooting notes, dont use disconnect network and remember that the 3 secunds actually count.

      Worked for me on Omnia 7 on Orange, thought that T-Mobile and Orange would be delivering stuff at same time – have read somewhere that is sometimes takes a couple of goes to get the timing right – Step 8 of 10: Installing Updates at present…

      Got the Omnia 7 in Aus, not working here either.

      You have to try different timings for disconnecting. For me it was like 6 seconds. Try to see how much time it takes to get “your phone is up to date” message, and then unplug 1 or 2 seconds before. After a couple of tries it should work.

      Does work, mine worked on my 3rd attempt.
      Try turning you data back on, hit UPDATE in Zune, then immediately kill you NIC. Just keeping trying combinations. Some people tried 20 times, but eventually it does burst into life.

    If you can not get this to work try this, it worked for me:

    1. Turn on wifi and data connection.
    2. Turn on Airplane mode
    3. Start up Zune and plug in your phone and follow the rest of the article from that point forward. Don’t forget to turn airplane mode off after the update.

    It worked, by setting airplane mode on with the lg model I got at the PDC. I’m using Vodafone in the Netherlands.

    A $100 billion company like At&t takes eons to test a software update? With this kind of ineptitude, how will it convince the public opinion and regulators over its buy out of T-Mobile? I should have switched to T-Mobile’s HD7; my focus is still riding the launch version OS, thanks to ma bell!

    OK. That’s just a ridiculous set of steps. :-) But they do work IF you can get the 3 second timing right.

    In XDA developers there’s a slightly different version, and I’ve managed to install NoDo to one Omnia7 and two Trophys with that. It requires a proxy, and setting your traffic to go through Hungary :) But at least it seems to work very well, check out the second last post on the page (link to proxy software on the first page of discussion) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011663&page=2

      Yepper … I got it in Chiang Mai on my unlocked HD 7. I had to try many many different times. Actually gave up and came back late in the evening when my Internet was faster. Than it worked on about the 5-6th time. Keep trying…. The total update took 34-40 minutes.

    cant beleive this worked! just a tip for some of u out there, i’m at work and my firewall appears to not let traffic to the update server, as a backup it appears that the zune software uses the phones data connection to check for updates.

    so what i did was,

    1connect to pc
    2 open zune,
    3. keep phone on the screen where u can toggle mobile data (make sure wifi is off).
    4. go to zune and search for updates, while checking after 3 seconds, turn off mobile data
    5. hey presto march update found!
    6 turn mobile data back on
    7 update away.

    i have an omnia7 on 3UK. i never post on these boards but since it worked a treat i thought i’d share!

    Worked like a charm. Word of note: There are 10 steps to go through during update…. so grab a cup of coffee because it can take anything from 30-50 min. HTC Trophy South Africa

    I was having a weird battery issue with my Omnia7 so I hoped the dev unlock and nodo upgrade would solve this. I am on Spanish Telefonica so had to do the Hungarian VPN solution which worked remarkably well. Unfortunately my battery issue has not been resolved by this (constant ding dong sound because the phone thinks I am plugging in & out the charger all the time) and this drains the battery overnight while having to put the phone on vibrate), so I will be sending it to Samsung to see if they can sort it out.
