Windows 8 Advanced Task Manager

Microsoft is currently working on a new task manager interface for Windows 8, WinRumors has learned.

The latest builds of Windows 8 include an “Advanced Task Manager” interface that provides Windows 8 users with greater information on running processes, services and overall system resources. The new Task Manager is a combination of Microsoft’s Task Manager interface and Microsoft’s Resource Monitor. Processes are now listed in a coloured interface to demonstrate their strain on the system. Mydigitallife forum users also posted a number of screenshots demonstrating the new process list which includes a touch friendly way to kill applications.

Very awesome. Resmon is great, but the GUI is very old. Making it modern will be a nice simple change :)

The weird UI suggests even more that they’re working with a completely different UI theme internally.

    Noice!!

  • Mark

Would be even better if it’s as function rich as the Process Explorer in the SysInternal suite

    • Tom

I’d settle for Sysinternals being a Windows feature pack that can be kept up-to-date with Windows Update. Right now it’s a pain.

    looking awesome!

Great, windows 8 is going to be unbelievable, I just know this.

  • Charles

They should just replace with Process Monitor from Sysinternals

Wow, I bet all these leaks are part of Microsoft’s marketing strategy to stay in the news and keep us excited for it. Its working!

Liking the new recap mechanism ;)

  • Mark Baatjies

I didn’t know you got a Quad Core Atom ?

    • bb10

      Dual core with HyperThreading.

  • Kris Cremers

I’m honestly a bit surprised that they’re still using a tab control with the Metro-theme.

  • http://windowsaddicted.com Alexandru Pricop

Looks good, especially the part where the processes are separated by categories.

The UI elements such as tabs etc are system wide, so once they find a system that works for everything they’ll make the update then. Probably a way off from seeing any major UI changes though.

  • http://www.webguide4u.com Vivek Parmar

Not too good, will wait for official announcement

  • http://www.facebook.com/drharper Dustin Harper

Very nice changes. I really like the new look of the UI, but I agree with the tabs being a sore spot.

    • http://www.robertsundstrom.eu/ Robert Sundström

Imagine some styling! The tab control could easily be styled to look like in the Cosmopolitan theme in the Zune software. Each header would then appear as those in the views in that theme.

  • Cnschindler

Oh man! They should include Process Explorer from Sysinternals! Why reinvent the wheel? It’s already their code…

  • Pivik

Looks less advanced than the current one, has less info…dumb down more things MS and we will have Mac OS yet.
