So far the software giant has hinted at features and unveiled a number of key enhancements. We know that “Mango” will include Internet Explorer 9, multitasking and a host of developer improvements, but what about the rest? We’ve compiled a list of features and demoes of some of Windows Phone 7.5′s best features. Microsoft will unveil Windows Phone 7.5 at a VIP event on May 24, stay tuned for full coverage at WinRumors.com

thats a hell of a lott of features. easily the biggest .5 update of all time. biggest update of all time though?

    • zzz

I can’t think of any phone OS update bigger than this. Can you?

They could have called this WP8.5 and got away with it.

They don’t want to jump to 8 yet.  I think they want to keep the numbers on par with Windows desktop.  Windows 8 will be out in 2012, so will WP8.

I’m very sorry but the list provided by www.liveside.net is better because of the visuals.

     Hi Tom,

you’re still missing hidden wifi network – most of the people around me were complaining about the lack of this functionality.

It’s mentioned at the Windows Phone blog: “…support for access to hidden corporate Wi-Fi networks”

And just wanted to say – great work, I love reading this blog!

Wow, this update is going to be massive. I wonder if all .5 releases will be this big.

    • Joe

Probibly not. They have alot of catching up to do, and they know it. Once Windows Phone is more feature compairable to iOS and Android, then they will have to start innovating instead of catching up, which will slow progress.

If they can show it now, then they can release it now

    But they won’t

They will again make us all go “when… when… WHEN!” again

Shame really, as I really wanted to buy into this new life of Win Phone

    • Calum

No. That’s a ridiculous suggestion. What they’re showing us may be prototypes of features or features that are not yet stable enough. They most likely still have bugs to fix, but that doesn’t mean they can’t show us the features.

lol, it takes time to develop and test software. Just because they have a screenshot of it ”working” doesnt mean that it isnt full of bugs and issues.

now if only they had an update for my contacts constantly disappearing, apps not working correctly and total lack of save states for apps – including basic apps like SMSdisappearing, apps not working correctly and total lack of save states for apps – including basic apps like SMS

…I’ve never had any apps dissapear nor any issues with apps not working correctly. As for the save states, they’ve said that’s something they’re going to fix with this update.

Have been reading this site for a while, but the talking ads will ensure I stop coming. Is there any way to get that goop removed?

    • Joe

I just started coming to this site and am extremely turned away from the talking adds. 80% of the time, the second I hear one, I just click on a link to a different blog, like wpcentral.com, because talking adds is unforgivable.

    • Oj

talking adds are the worst thing any website can have..

    • Fed

Why don’t you use an adblocker then? I’m using Ad Muncher with IE9. It’s an awesome product. Blocks ALL ads across ALL browsers — in fact across ALL applications like Windows Live Messenger or Yahoo Messenger.

Does Outlook not sync with WP7?
    If not will it soon?
    I can’t believe it if it doesn’t.
I’m waiting for Mango in the fall before I purchase, but I will need to sync to outlook.

    • zzz

It syncs fine but you need to use the Hotmail Outlook Connector plugin. Everything in contacts and calendar are synced over the cloud automatically.  Beats the old way of local sync over USB cable.  Some people are making a fuss out of this apparently because they don’t want their contacts in the cloud.  I’m not sure how they tolerate emails then. Go figure.

    • Mottsmith

The biggest problem is that the cloud won’t let you sync more than 999 contacts.  If you have a large list, as I do (4000+), Hotmail can’t handle it.  iPhone or Blackberry can, though . . .

    • Alombelino

So if I want to sync an appointment, I can’t use outlook, but I have to use the hotmail calander?
      I don’t use exchange.

Right now I have a Palm Pre and I use the Google calander to sync appointments and dates and it works fine, I’m assuming it would be the same thing with Live calander.

    • Alombelino

Thanks zzz, I never knew about connector, so this will work the same way the google calander works. Great, can’t wait for Mango and a new WP7 phone in the fall.

  • majg

    Nice list.

btw, IE 9 features seem to deal with the loud ads.

Wow, that is one awesome list. I didn’t know the Kinect integration was coming in Mango also. I wonder if any of this is US only?

  • Me
