Windows Phone 7.5 “Mango” update arriving on September 15?

Windows Phone Mango

Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.5 “Mango” update may arrive on September 15, according to reports.

Microsoft is currently preparing to release Windows Phone 7.5 “Mango” as an update to existing devices. Windows Phone OEMs are currently making subtle changes to their update packages to ensure each device is ready for Windows phone 7.5. WPCentral reports that a “well known” commercial software developer has claimed that Mango is arriving on September 15. The developer works with Microsoft directly according to the site and distributes Windows Phone, Android and iOS applications.

A September 15 distribution date for Windows Phone 7.5 ties in nicely with the unveiling of some new Windows Phone devices on September 1. Microsoft’s device partners are expected to reveal new Windows Phone 7.5 devices on Thursday that will be made available on carrier networks shortly. Separately, a report from We Love Windows Phone HK suggests that HTC is aiming for a September release of Mango on its existing devices. HTC is reportedly working on the RTM version of Windows Phone 7.5 (build 7720) and is applying patches and fixes ahead of a final certification from Microsoft.

I can see it now. In the middle of showing of Windows 8 Balmer stops and says to check your phones becasue everyone around the world just got the update. Epic.

    • Anonymous

I’m guessing they are talking about the release to carrier testing, not end users.

    • Anonymous

      Still, it could be epic.

    • Anonymous

It was released to the carriers already, almost a month ago.

    • http://www.facebook.com/jpcarvalhinho Joao P Carvalhinho

It was released to manufacturers… not carriers… I guess.

    • wp7gg

they released it to my grandma in heaven! my grandma told me it sucks!

    • Umairhashmi

      Funny

    • OMG55

Are you a Katrina Victim? I suspect you are, because just like Katrina, “The iphone 3GS & 4 is are disasters”. I’m speaking from experience, bought my wife them and she’s had nothing but trouble with freezes, items disappearing, cell service not working, ie..I Guess the Death Grip Thing. And no we don’t have the 500k apps loaded on the device, just 10. You can get out of you Drag Queen outfit now and put on a WP7

    • Candid Calum

So you don’t just post ridiculous comments, you also post unfunny comments when you’re trying to be funny? Interesting.

    • http://twitter.com/RobertCFP Robert Wade

It was released to BOTH the carriers and the OEMs.  They’ve both been testing their bits.

    • Anonymous

My bad. I meant manufacturers. So, we can imagine (speculate) that some carrier testing has been going on in recent weeks as well. Now some carriers seem to test waaaay longer than others (ATT). Fortunately, I’m with Tmobile. We were among the first stateside carriers to get NoDo. Let’s hope that bodes well for Mango.

heh, that would be pretty awesome, I just wish Ballmer wasn’t a sweaty fat guy, then it would be even more epic.

  • Murani Lewis

Oh I know what i’m including in my prayer for the next two weeks.  If Microsoft could manage to release the update to existing devices during BUILD and show Windows 8 off this can shake the mobile market.  Just imagine if Microsoft actually gave away a slate for devs and a windows phone.  Let devs get used to a unifying user experience.

Mango is the only reason why I moved to WP7 :P

September 15th is still technically Summer.  I say that’s an early release. ;)

Now, carriers getting it out to phones in a timely manner? That’s a whole other story.

    • Anonymous

Exactly. Sept. 15th doesn’t mean DICK to the carriers.

    • Anonymous

Delays are one of the reasons I’m on the brink of abandoning wp7

    • Candid Calum

They haven’t ever delayed Mango (that we know of).

    • saurabh

What delay are you referring to?

Microsoft is paying real close attention to WP7 and they are particularly steering clear of any delays…

    • Candid Calum

They haven’t ever delayed Mango (that we know of).

  • Morgan

So basically AT&T will get it to my Focus by January? Come on Nokia!!!!

  • Bshywooman

If they ever release it,I don’t expect to get until 6months later.By that time my contract will be up and I can get a new phone without having to read BS promises,it’ll be better than Mango, and whatever issues that come with Mango. And it will have FLASH.I didn’t even see any changes in the first or  last upgrade or did we get that yet?

    • Candid Calum

BS promises? Microsoft have always promised Mango in the fall. Hasn’t the fall only just begun? Start reading news articles instead of making yourself look silly.

    • markusdevine

The last upgrade gave you copy & paste for one. Also if your looking for “FLASH”, you must be going to Android, well at least then you will have buggiest of all all OS’s. Have fun with that.

Oh and Microsoft said it would be released in the fall, if you look at a calendar you will notice that we are now only five days into it.

  • http://twitter.com/AM_iL3GENDx AM iL3GENDx

Same day as Zune HD came out 2 years ago :D

  • http://twitter.com/DHRYDER305 Junior

I think MS and its people should have flatly denied mango was gonna be here on the 1st as alot of the internet rumor suggested. I was hoping it would be but Im on ATT and we all know we wont get it soon.

    • Anonymous

They did.  All of the big MS WP7 employees on Twitter denied Mango would be released on Sept. 1.

    • LWSJR

@Junior…But they DID deny that Mango was going to be released on September 1st!  Joe Belifiore stated that it was just a rumour.  However, practically every internet site tried to read ‘more’ into his denial by twisting his words, and trying to find a ‘different’ meaning to what he clearly stated.  So, if people chose to call Joe a liar about September 1st NOT being the release date for Mango, then people have only themselves to blame.

Also, Microsoft hasn’t confirmed that September 15th is going to be the release date for Mango either!  This date is just something that the internet blogs are trying to piece together based on what, circumstances?

Until the date is officially announced by Microsoft, consumers should simply enjoy their devices as is.

    • http://twitter.com/laserfloyd Lewis McCrary

They denied the heck out of it.  The internet, wise and all knowing, picked it up and ran with it despite MS saying it wasn’t happening.

    • Candid Calum

I think you should just not get your hopes up over rumours when rumours aren’t always right. I’m sure many of us didn’t expect it on September 1 because it was only ever a rumour, and it wasn’t confirmed.

  • Anonymous

I think they have been testing it with the carriers already. It has been nearly a month since it went RTM, giving the operaters around two weeks of further testing. That is the same amount of time it took NoDo to reach devices after it was released, No? I really dont know, Im just making rough estimates, and am of course being hopefull.

  • Lord Jem

i jus bought the mozart….. looking forward to the upgrade

  • Delta470

I was one of the lucky people to get a leaked 7720 build and throw it on my LG phone.   Mango is simply awesome and has really brought the Windows Phone above the others.

  • Fidel

    ‘maybe’

    • wp7gg

      again

    • Candid Calum

They’re hardly going to set a release date when that could get our hopes up and not happen. Let them release it when it’s ready to go on each different device for each different carrier. You’re the one complaining of broken promises (even though there haven’t been any with Mango), yet you’re now suggesting there’s a problem with them not setting a specific release date. Stop being ridiculous.

    • Candid Calum

  • blackletter

Hey Tom, what is your favorite Windows Phone? Which Windows Phone do you use in your day-to-day life? Are you running Mango on your Windows Phone now? I’m loving my HTC HD7S, although if the HTC Eternity comes to AT&T, I won’t be able to resist an early upgrade.

Yes, because less than a year is slow for them to develop an update that includes 500 new brilliant and useful features. . . . Stop being ridiculous.

too late. planning to change to iphone. i hate delays.

Delay? there never was a release date! They only announced “fall” and fall just begun, so they have 3 months left to be in time.

    • Ex-BF

Only 3 months left?!  Android & iOS would bury WP 7.5 in a week, if there’s one thing WP is good at, it’s the delays, can’t they just release it now?!  Why 1 or 15, maybe right now some monkey in Microsoft is thinking “11.11.11 would be cool, let’s delay it so we would be obsolete and play catch up again.”

    • markusdevine

      Troll much?
“Android & iOS would bury WP 7.5 in a week”.

      Please do explain.

    • http://twitter.com/ExcessBoyfriend Niko

Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer even admitted WP 7 sales were disappointing almost as soon as it was released, and they were asking themselves “Why?”.  What exactly do they mean why?!  Are these MS guys personally using WP devices?  I’m a WP guy as early as WM 5, I had WM 6, 6.1, & 6.5 devices, up to this day my WM 6.5 Omnia 2 has no official 6.5.3 update, I did not bother for a WM 7, why would I change my not so cool Omnia 2 to a not so cool WM 7 Mozart?  Yeah the Mozart had Xbox Live & Live Tiles, so what?!  My Omnia 2 has a front videocam & 32 GB Micro SD expansion slot + 16 GB internal, correct me if I’m wrong, but no WP 7 device has one, until when?  The WP 7.5 devices (Which no one has a clue for the release date) has a front cam now but still no expansion slot that I know of.  Let me ask you now, how many of your closest friends are using WM 7?  I thought so.  Among my 18 closest friends only 2 of us have 6.5, the rest are iOS, Android, & Symbian (In statistical order).  When 7.5 finally releases, I bet my house iPhone 5 would closely follow and only God knows what’s under it’s sleeve, and I’m quite sure you tried to persuade a friend or two to try WP for their next device, I know I did, but failed.

As per many media outlets, MS was, “Late to the Party with their Cell Phone Offerings”. So why would you have ever left??? Just proves what the gentleman said below..iTroll.

    • http://twitter.com/laserfloyd Lewis McCrary

Your name says it all.  Windows Phone 7 Good Game?  At least it’s better than the Guest trolls.  If anything, it’s early.

    • Candid Calum

They haven’t ever delayed Mango (that we know of). How can it be too late when they’ve always claimed Mango will be released in the fall?

    • Anonymous

Haha, cause Apple’s never delayed an iPhone or iOS update before right?

The only people who might delay it are the carriers, like AT&T did with the NoDo update.
