Microsoft has distributed Windows Phone 7.5 RTM handsets to winners of its WPAPPITUP competition.
The WPAPPITUP student developer competition is an ongoing competition designed to highlight prototype Windows Phone app ideas. Microsoft announced the first 20 winners of the competition at the end of July and has distributed HTC Mazaa devices to some of them. The device includes the RTM build (7720) of Windows Phone 7.5. XDA-Developers forum member Cpitt received one of the devices and posted an about screen of the phone earlier today. “It’s roughly the exact same as the one in the pictures that were released here back in April,” said Cpitt referring to the previously leaked images of the HTC Mazaa. “The only difference being some kind of identification number that is etched into the bottom left hand corner,” he added.
HTC’s Mazaa device includes a 12MP camera, capable of supporting the RAW image format. Microsoft has been using the device in Windows Phone Mango demos for Internet Explorer 9. WinRumors understands that the HTC Mazaa also includes an updated CPU and GPU configuration. The chipset allows HTML5 content on Internet Explorer 9 to run better than current retail Windows Phone 7 devices. The HTC Mazaa is a developer phone that may be released on the Sprint network later this year. XDA-developers originally unveiled the HTC Mazaa device in April. The site noted that the device includes a single LED flash and a 3.7″ screen.
