Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac beta released

Microsoft has released a beta version of the Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac today.

The connector will allow Mac users to sync their Windows Phone 7 devices with iTunes and iPhoto. Winrumors has been using an early version of the beta software and can confirm the beta is very stable and functions well. Windows Phone 7 Mac users will be able to sync Music, Videos and Photos to their phones.

The Windows Phone Connector sits on top of Apple’s iTunes/iPhoto for Mac and interacts with both software programs using public APIs. Microsoft says it has not had to work with Apple in order to implement the connector. The install package is extremely lightweight at only 1.5MB. The application will also receive regular updates in the future. It’s not designed to replace the Zune experience from the PC and we hope that Microsoft considers writing a full Zune application for Mac in the future.

The Connector is now available in beta at Microsoft’s download site. A full version will be available later this year.

There’s something so wrong, yet so right, about that.

It actually works pretty well. I’ve used it on my iMac in OS X and it’s good but it doesn’t beat Zune.

Now if only they would bring the full zune app to the mac. We need iTunes alternatives.

I’m going to take a guess here and say that with enough demand for the Zune service/software from mac users that at some point they should port it over, or make a new version for Mac.

First things first though they need to update the Zune PC software to handle photos better, it’s way too basic from what I hear as of v4.7.
