Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 update has been demonstrated on video today.

The update, due in early 2011, brings copy and paste functionality to Windows Phone 7. The update is currently being distributed to Samsung Taylor Windows Phone 7 developer devices. The update is available in Zune and bumps the build number of Windows Phone 7 up to 7.0.7338.0. Retail devices currently run 7.0.7004.0.

Pocketnow posted a video of the copy and paste functionality in action. Although the feature doesn’t appear to work well, it’s important to note that the device in question isn’t a retail Windows Phone 7 device.

Microsoft is planning to release a Windows Phone 7 OS update in early 2011. Microsoft is officially saying that the update is due in early 2011 but WinRumors understands Microsoft officials will detail the upcoming changes at CES. Windows Phone 7 is a key part of Microsoft’s long term mobile strategy and we expect the software giant to promise tethering, copy and paste, map improvements and a basic implementation of multi-tasking for third party applications. Microsoft will also make a number of changes to device settings to allow for further customisation by end users.

yeah if that’s the LG developer device the touch screen on that one was pretty lousy.

It’s the Samsung one but yeah the touchscreen sucks compared to retail ones.

I like that they use the autocorrect space for the copy icon, but I hope the final update is much more responsive than that…

The missed taps/clicks are because the guy who took the video is trying to do it with one hand while holding the camera with the other for the most part. This is one of those odd things with capacitive screens, if it’s not being held you get more unresponsive taps/swipes.

This seems like a older only C&P specific build that MS let out to a few people for feedback, I doubt those icons will stay the same and they also need to add the ability to select part of any sms message instead of just the whole thing.

Speaking of builds and so on, it was said back in Nov that internally MS was already up into the 7.0.75xx builds. Guess we’ll know as January gets closer.

I hope those “drag handles” get much bigger, they look far too much like they’re from Windows Mobile days, so it fits in with the rest of the touch friendly Windows Phone 7 interface.
