Microsoft’s Marketplace for Windows Phone 7 hit 777 apps today.
Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore, who oversees the Windows Phone 7 product definition & design team, revealed the figure earlier today. A number of Windows Phone 7 applications went live today including official YouTube support, Twitter and Windows Live Messenger. Microsoft is slowly releasing a number of high profile apps onto the marketplace and we’ve been told to expect more in the coming weeks.
Microsoft launched Windows Phone 7 today in Europe, New Zealand and Australia. Unfortunately, some delays and lack of devices have seen a large number of shoppers in the UK go without. Due to a small number of devices, retailers have sent all existing stock to high volume stores. Microsoft assures us that they are doing their best to work with operators and device manufacturers to ensure the phones are available. “We are working hard with our partners to get enough phones off the ships and planes and into the stores as soon as possible. If anyone has not managed to get a phone today, you can order online and will be able to get one in the next few hours and days,” said a Microsoft spokesperson.
