Windows Phone 7 “NoDo” update leaks ahead of public release

Microsoft’s highly anticipated “NoDo” update for Windows Phone 7 has leaked ahead of its public debut this week.

Windows Phone enthusiasts at XDA-developers have posted a ROM image for European HTC 7 Mozart users. The ROM upgrades the devices to the final version of “NoDo” ahead of Microsoft’s release. The company is expected to start pushing the update to handsets on Tuesday but eager Mozart owners can opt for the risky process of using a leaked ROM in the mean time.

“NoDo” is Microsoft’s first platform update and will include copy and paste. Windows Phone 7 copy and paste has been demonstrated recently in full thanks to an unlocked emulator. Microsoft’s first update will also improve application start-up and resume times.

“NoDo”, the codename for Microsoft’s first Windows Phone 7 update, has been ready for some time. The software giant RTM’d the update in December and has been busy preparing the Zune client software and Marketplace to handle the updated software. WinRumors understands the update has been delayed a number of times due to concerns from operators and device manufacturers.

Still irritates the ever living crap out of me that Ive waited all this time (still havent gotten the mini-update by the way) and ALL Im getting for my time is copy paste and some speed enhancements?? FIX MY BLUETOOTH! FIX MY LOST CAMERA SETTINGS!!! GIVE ME MORE VOLUME CONTROL!!!!! Holy moly…

    • Briguy992

According to other sites who have NoDo, there are other fixes in this (they said Bluetooth has been improved, but it’s still using the same profile). Camera settings haven’t changed (it’s unfortunately as it was designed, so we gotta hope they change their minds or find a better way to implement the camera settings). Haven’t heard anything about volume controls.

Personally, I’m hoping this fixes the stuttering Zune issue. I suppose I’ll find out soon!

Interesting… Fixing the bluetooth issues for me is paramount. I use my phone a lot, and its just too crappy for important calls. Even talking to my wife I find myself want to throw the phone out the window let alone during a business call haha.

I still dont see the use in resetting the camera settings each time. Just dumb… The ads claim you can get your phone out, take a picture and share it faster than other phones. Yeah…unless you like turning anti-shake off and sharpness on max every friggin time…like I do.

Ive actually gotten used to the volume controls. However, on occasion, I forget to turn up the volume to max before bed, so my alarms arent as loud as they can be. Visa versa….Ill forget to turn it back down, and my text message alert blares through the entire office. Just annoying, and seems like it would be a simple fix for a company like MS…if they wanted to listen to us.

They say it’s to keep changes from ruining future pictures. They are looking into that, but currently it’s a feature.

Be glad you don’t live in Europe. They stll don’t have access to most of the apps or Zune services.

Embarassin update… and they call it NoDo??? is worse than the updates for Android…

    • Nodo

It was supposed to make fun of the Android updates. Clearly they did.

    • Anon

Wrong. they named it NoDo because someone forgot to bring donuts to the patch planning meeting.

I think this leaked ROM has an older build and not the final version of NoDo. Guess we’ll know when the time comes though.

    • http://www.winrumors.com Tom W

      No it’s the final build.

    • Alexander Z3ro2

Sure? cause sprint is based on most recent 7.0.7389.0

    • http://www.winrumors.com Tom W

Yes and users in the XDA thread are reporting the OS build is 7389.

Hahaha… I have an HTC Mozart and I am still waiting for the Pre-Update….

Does Microsoft just want us to abandon this phone platform? I have been nothing but unimpressed since I got it. The only thing that truly impressed me was the super AMOLED screen on my Samsung Focus. The software is very buggy. There are times when I can’t get into the market…it just boots me back to the main screen. I truly wish that Microsoft had just gone the Zune route and made the phone themselves and only had one out there. I realize that I don’t like the Samsungs of the world and the carriers getting in the way of me and the update.

My iPhone updates the day it is available. I can at least hack my android phone to run cyanogen and get updates on a regular basis (nightly if I wish). But Windows Phone? Once a year?

And I now question the whole design of the phone when they thought the proper way to design the camera settings was to constantly default them back to crappy settings. How hard would a “Make Default” button have been in the settings? Would that really have been too confusing?

I have a Focus too. The only bug I enocunter is the Marketplace won’t launch after a few dozen launches. Besides that, the phone software itself is impressive in its lag of bugs. I have some stupid apps with bugs, I don’t blame that on the phone.

I spoke with WP7 support. They are changing the camera behavior per MANY user requests. If you feel the need, tweet the same request to @WinPhoneSupport

Yes, MS releases might be slow, but buggy? I don’t think so.

  • Wheelerkl

Please stop complaining. Go back to your Andriod and iPhones if you are that dissatisfied.

I am perplexed by you complaining about complaining. Isn’t that hypocritical? :)
Besides, Microsoft don’t solicit views, and seemingly miss obvious fixes. At least that’s how it feels to users. Venting on comments makes people feel better, and in vain hope that mass hysteria gets MS’s attention. Some of the UI choices they made just seem amazingly daft.
I’ve moved back from Mac to Windows 7. I have Xbox not playstation. I have Google _not_ Live.Com
I am a perfect example of someone MS should want to “win over”, I am low hanging fruit. They need to exercise more might. They need to knock down walls, like Euro users not having as many Zune services or features as their US counterparts. Apple has done it, so why can’t MS?
Anyway, as you suggest, if the rate of development is this slow -perhaps on my next phone upgrade I will go “back” to iphone or Android, or perhaps confound everyone and get a QNX based Blackberry :)

I have to agree, especially on the Zune services. Though I’m not about to switch back to iPhone, but Android is always a possibility. I live in Canada, ANY information from Microsoft on whether Zune Pass is ever going to be an option for me here would be great.

  • Wheelerkl

@Bryan…the Zune features in other countries will come. The OS is only 5 months old. If you wan your comments and concerns heard by M$ go to the official M$ forum for WP7. M$ has alot of great features coming in the near future. Features that iPhone and Android can’t match.
