Microsoft has begun notifying customers that a mandatory Dashboard update will be distributed on November 1.
The update brings full Kinect support to the Xbox 360 together with a refined user interface. Improved parental controls, Kinect video chats and Zune Pass support are also included. The new UI includes an improved layout with new fonts and colours. Microsoft employees have been showing off their Xbox avatars in anticipation of the update and Kinect availability on November 4.
The latest update is mandatory, meaning if you choose not to upgrade then Xbox Live will not function until the upgrade is applied. The Dashboard update will also bring ESPN streaming to those with Xbox Live Gold subscriptions and improved Netflix support.
Microsoft also revealed that there are 42 million consoles sold in 35 countries. 42% of Xbox Live Gold members in the US watch an average of an hour of television and movies on their Xbox every day. The 25 million members of Xbox Live around the world spend 30 hours per month using the service.
