New Xbox Dashboard

Microsoft has started to register consoles in preparation for its dashboard beta later this week.

The software giant sent beta participants details on Tuesday on how to register their console for the upcoming beta. The instructions indicate that Microsoft will being pushing the update to beta participants in the next 1-2 days. Microsoft started accepting nominations for the Xbox dashboard beta last month. The software maker closed registrations after just 24 hours due to popular demand. The newly designed dashboard will offer the following features:

  • New design with integrated Kinect voice and gesture controls
  • Beacons
  • Facebook Sharing
  • Cloud Storage for Game Saves and Xbox LIVE Profile

Codenamed “Madrid”, the November dashboard update will bring Microsoft’s Metro style interface to the Xbox. Microsoft is also preparing to include YouTube and Bing on the Xbox. Bing users will be able to use Kinect’s voice recognition feature to search for movies, music and other content on their consoles. Microsoft is also planning to include some type of Marketplace with applications for Xbox 360. The new dashboard will enable Microsoft’s upcoming Windows Phone integration with Xbox, see a video demonstration here.

Microsoft will also introduce an Xbox LIVE TV service as part of its dashboard update. The company announced deals with nearly 40 content providers recently. Bravo, Comcast, HBO GO and Syfy are amongst a number of TV providers for U.S. Xbox owners. The BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5 are partnering with Microsoft in the UK to offer programming on the Xbox 360. Xbox users will need the latest dashboard update, due in November, to experience live TV with Xbox LIVE. Microsoft is planning to make the TV channels available to Xbox LIVE gold subscribers and some partners will integrate Kinect experiences with their TV channels. Microsoft’s TV service is powered by the company’s Silverlight software.

    • Gtmax500

I didnt see that new channel either and i just registered also. It deffinatly says when you finish the computer stuff (i.e. get product ket and all) that you should see a new channel. hmmmm

    • NoobSavvy

I  haven’t seen the new channel either.

    • Not ice_fusion.

it takes approximately 3 – 5 business days (as per the instructions)

    • Artifactualbull

you should be seeing it by now

    • Fludlyt

The successful registration applies to when the test servers have successfully registered your console which should take 1-2 days according to the app you downloaded. When that is done then the pre-release channel will be available (most likely as a minor update before the preview begins to rolls out).

    • mark reese

    • Arne Helseth

Doesn’t work that way, you only get a single code. Also it specifically tells you not to share the dashboard with anyone else ;)

    • Arkistriph

Go to recent downloads and check for the Beta, it will look like the last two photos in the article. Aloha.

  • Curtis

No, Really, get something different than Xbox.  As an owner, I can say,,,NEVER AGAIN.

    • Lewis McCrary

For what reason? RROD is all but a distant memory with the newer consoles.  It doesn’t have Bluray but that’s something I hardly care about given all the streaming options.  What are the alternatives?  PS3 if you want to get your account compromised?  Wii if you just want a Wii?  There’s a reason XBox has been outselling all the other consoles.  I used to loathe the idea of owning one (years ago) but I am so glad I made the investment. :)

  • Rohan R.R. Mayers

If you go to the you can register your console. I just did mine.

    • Niko

      So did I.

  • Anonymous

guys go on the Microsoft Connect, so you can get your beta key from there

  • Anonymous

About time! Registered all 3 of my consoles.

  • William Moore

Ok anyone that is haveing a hard time finding it can go here Make sure you sign in with your live ID.  (you will have to be accepted into the program already)

Also there is just one code provided and you have to go to your download history to reg different xboxs. So no you can not share the code or give one out as they do not give you 3 of them also they forbid you from doing so.
